Our digital society has become a real mess. According to a study by Zetanet:

• In 2020, people created 1.7 MB of data every second.
• By 2022, 70% of the globe’s GDP will have undergone digitization.
• In 2021, 68% of Instagram users view photos from brands. 
• By 2025, 200+ zettabytes of data will be in cloud storage around the globe.
• In 2020, users sent around 500,000 Tweets per day. 
• By the end of 2020, 44 zettabytes will make up the entire digital universe.
• Every day, 306.4 billion emails are sent, and 500 million Tweets are made.

All of this data exists now on who knows how many websites. We do know that in a 2017 study by LastPass that the average business user needs to track 191 passwords. We cannot simply store all of this in our heads. If you are not using some type of tool to manage your passwords, and I mean not a book that has Passwords written across the top, then you need a digital tool that can safely and securely store your passwords. 

One reason that this is true is password use and reuse. If you use the same password over and over again, then one breach can release the password you are using for your banking, shopping and to protect your health records. STOP reusing passwords and using weak passwords. I believe more and more sites now require more complex passwords, but dont think that there are not tools to permutate passages into potential passwords that crackers are using. Even in the early days of computing dictionaries were commonly used for cracking accounts. Below is a list of the 500 most common passwords. Please review the list ( not family safe so please beware ) for your own passwords and determine if maybe you should update a few of the ones you are using. These are the 500 most common passwords, so most attacks will try these 500 first. Oh but accounts are locked out after 3 bad tries you say, not if a slow drop attack is used. Attackers have learned they can run a test over 500 days and each day try one password out of this list across a community of say five million accounts. If the user is also logging in daily, then they will never lock the account. It happens, so change passwords as well especially for sites you know have been burned.
